About Hart & Halo

In 2021 my husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary and to mark the milestone I wanted a ring that represented our family and the journey we’ve been on in the last decade.Â
On the process of discovery, I learnt a bit about gemstones and the difference between mineral types.
Despite the Morganite-colouring first attracting my attention, I fast learned that this wasn’t the crystal for me. I wanted something super hard, able to withstand the knocks of everyday life, but first and foremost it was about the right colour.Â
I was delighted to learn that Sapphire, the hardest coloured stone just under Diamond, wasn’t just blue!Â
In fact, it came in every colour of the rainbow. And so, my obsession began. No two Sapphire were ever the same, and I spent hours scrolling and marvelling at these beautiful stones borne out of sheer luck millions of years ago.
Being a ring I intended to wear everyday, wanting it to last my life and beyond, it therefore needed to be a Sapphire.
Back to my ring, I was going through the process with a top-end NZ jeweller to create a bespoke piece to represent my story. My creative mind went into overdrive planning and thinking through what each stone could mean and represent. I did drawings, googled for inspiration, more drawings, and landed on a design that had a lot of thought and consideration poured into it.
Long story short, I didn’t get this ring. I got their version. Why?
- They had a poor Sapphire selection
- They couldn’t get the stones needed for my design
- They drew up options based on what they could do – nothing like the drawings I had given them.
While I am happy with the ring (it still is an array of beautiful Sapphires, somewhere on the colour spectrum that I was after), it was not what I was after. I knew I could do better.Â
We can do better
