How to measure for a ring correctly

Trying to figure out your ring size at home can be tricky, especially if you are buying a ring as a surprise for someone. This ring sizing guide will help you to measure your ring size so that you can be sure of getting the perfect fit. With this ring sizing guide, you’ll be able to find the perfect ring for you in no time!

Do’s

Do figure out the size of the actual finger you intend to wear the ring on – sizes differ by finger but also by hand!
Watch out for Goldilocks – Do make sure you are measuring your finger when you are comfortably warm, not too hot nor too cold, as your finger will swell or shrink accordingly!
Do err on the side of larger if you are in between sizes. It’s a good idea to measure the size of the knuckle you have to get the ring over also – a size in between the knuckle and the finger might be the best bet. It should be a wobble/pull effort over the knuckle though and should not fit easily over, otherwise your ring will fall off!

Don’ts

Don’t measure once. Take the measurement 3 or 4 times, preferably using different methods, to ensure best accuracy.
Don’t assume the size for the left hand finger will be the same on the right, or vice versa.

Method one

Use your local Jeweller

Pop into your local jeweller and ask them kindly to help size your finger. This method is the most accurate way to ensure you get it right.

Method two

Measure your own finger

Wrap a thin strip of paper or length of string around the base of the finger you wish to wear the ring on. If you have larger knuckles measure this too – you may want to select a size in between to allow the ring to slip on comfortably.
Mark the spot where the paper/string meets.
Measure the paper/string’s distance with a ruler.
Use the ring size chart to determine your ring size.

Method three

Measure your own ring

Find a ring you already have that fits the finger you wish to size.
Place it over a ruler and measure the inside ring diameter.
Use the ring size chart to determine your size.

Method four

Match your own ring

To size a ring you already have,

Print out our Ring Sizing Guide to 100% (ensure page scaling is set to “none”)
Check the size is calibrated by measuring the line below on your paper – it should be 5cm.

Find a ring you already have that fits the finger you wish to size.
Lay it directly onto the circles below to find the one where the black circle matches your ring’s inner diameter.
If your size falls somewhere between two sizes, you should opt for the bigger size.

Method five

Request a ring sizer

Request a reusable ring sizer from us (you will need to register with us for your address details).
Once received, simply push the end through the buckle to form a ring shape.
Slip the ring sizer onto the finger you wish to size.
Adjust to give a comfortable fit, checking that it just slips back over the knuckle.
When best fit is achieved, read off size indicated by the arrow.

Couldn't recommend Hart & Halo enough, I had a very specific kind of design in mind that was hard to find. Celeste took my couple of inspo photos, ended up merging a couple of ideas from both and I got my dream ring. The process took about a month and a half and the outcome is perfect.
