Jewellery Care Guide
Can you wear your Sapphire rings every day?
Absolutely. That is why you invested in a Sapphire!
Like with anything it is better to take good care of your jewellery to ensure a lifetime and beyond for your beautiful piece. Below we talk through how best to care for your jewellery.
Cleaning
To bring back the super sparkle, cleaning Sapphire jewellery is very simple.
What you need
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush (toothbrushes work well).
Method
- Simply fill a bowl of warm water,
- Add a few drops of mild soap or detergent and mix to form bubbles.Â
- Drop your ring in and leave to soak for a few minutes.Â
- Using your soft-bristled brush, gently scrub the ring to get rid of any dirt, dust, or grime. Remember to turn your ring and try to clean gently from all angles, every surface including at the back of the stones (if you have access).Â
- Rinse with warm water and pat dry with a clean towel.
There are some situations it is best to take it off…
It is best not to expose your jewellery to harsh chemicals as it may affect the stone or the setting of your jewellery. Therefore we strongly recommend you remove your rings when using cleaning products (mild soap and detergents are fine). Â
We also strongly recommend you remove your jewellery when you get into a pool, or take a shower. Chlorine in the pool water is a harsh chemical that can cause damage, and hair care or facial products may also cause damage to the stone or metal of your jewellery.
Professional inspection
Every 12 months (or more if you are rough with your hands), it is recommended to have your ring inspected by a Jeweller. They will ensure the settings are still safe and secure to minimise risk of your stones falling out. This regular check is crucial to keep your jewellery well-maintained, as there will be times when prongs need to be touched up as a result of wear and tear. If you are based outside of Auckland we are happy for the annual check to be performed by your trusted local Jeweller.Â
If there is any work required to be done though, we ask that you please contact us with the details. So that we can be sure of the history of your ring, and to ensure your warranty remains valid, we prefer to perform any work ourselves. (For our overseas clients we may have a partner Jeweller we work with in your locality whom we trust to perform this work.)
We will ask you to please cover any shipping costs for the checks, cleans and works. Any work required resulting from wear and tear is not a result of poor workmanship therefore is not covered under our warranty and may incur charges.
Important to note
- these regular checks are required to ensure your warranty remains valid and are your responsibility to arrange.
- any work performed on your jewellery other than us, or a pre-approved partnering Jeweller, will make the lifetime warranty void.
Storage
Best place for them is in a cool, dry, secure place away from direct sunlight and heat.
Sapphires are the toughest of coloured gemstones and could scratch any of your other coloured stones, however they may be scratched by other sapphires and diamonds can also scratch them.
It is always advised to store your sapphire ring individually to protect it and your other jewellery. The metals used to make each of your jewellery items will also have different hardness so another reason it is best to separate.Â
