SPECIAL BIRTHDAY
Rosie's Lotus Ring
When Rosie first came to see us, she wasn’t expecting to leave with a ring design she loved. In fact, she was planning ahead. The idea was to create a special piece for her 40th birthday, still a couple of years away. This first consultation was simply meant to be an opportunity to explore ideas and start dreaming.
But sometimes a design has other plans.
As we played with different stones and layouts, a beautiful lotus-inspired cluster began to emerge. At its heart sat an upside-down heart-shaped Sapphire, surrounded by colourful petals and anchored by a green marquise Sapphire representing the lotus leaf beneath. Rosie was drawn to the creativity of the design and the way each element felt organic, playful and a little unexpected. Before long, what had been a future project became something she simply couldn’t stop thinking about.
The design was deeply personal. With Sri Lankan heritage in her family, it was important to incorporate Sri Lankan Sapphires into the piece. We sourced three blue Sri Lankan Sapphires and tucked them into one side of the band as a subtle nod to that connection. Rosie also loved asymmetry, so we intentionally tilted the lotus flower and leaf to create movement and character. Additional marquise-cut gemstones in purple and orange hues were added as petals, each carrying special significance to her. Even the metal choice was meaningful. Rosie chose rich red gold, embracing its warm colour and allowing us to add delicate petal-inspired metal details throughout the design.
As the ring was being crafted, life delivered an unexpected reminder of how precious and fragile time can be. Rosie found herself reflecting on how often we save special things for “someday”. What had originally been planned as a 40th birthday gift suddenly felt less important than the present moment.
Rather than waiting, Rosie made a different decision – she chose to wear the ring now.
For us, that decision perfectly captured everything we believe jewellery should be. Not something hidden away for the future, but something that celebrates life as it is today. A reminder that joy doesn’t always need a milestone or a special occasion. Sometimes the occasion is simply being here.
Rosie’s lotus ring is a celebration of heritage, creativity and individuality. But perhaps most importantly, it is a reminder that life is precious, and that the things we love are often worth enjoying sooner rather than later.
