Greenish blue or blueish green, sapphires are known as Teal if they have at least 15% of a blue or green secondary colour, alongside its primary colour of the opposite green or blue.
Teal sapphire stones combine the calming depth of blue with the renewing energy of green. These beautiful gems can also symbolize open channels of communication and clarity of thought. All these associations can make these gems a wonderful representation of a bridge between two souls.
Teal Sapphires are also sometimes incorrectly referred to as ‘parti sapphires’. These are Sapphires that have distinct colours in different sections of the gemstone, while Teal Sapphires have a fluid blend of green and blue. The most valuable Teal Sapphires on the market have an even 50:50 split of green and blue and are also known as “Mermaid sapphires” or “Peacock sapphires”.
Teal sapphire stones look different under different lighting conditions so can look different depending on the time of the day. Your sapphire may appear bluer in the sunshine or greener under artificial light.
